Meltdown!

Originally created for the 'Bigmode 2025 Game Jam' with Studio TeamStep, everything in meltdown happens in one place, the desk scene! Manage the failing nuclear plant, keep the power flowing and don't start a reactor meltdown! Deal with your boss' phone calls, both good and bad events related to the surrounding city, and earn your status as a nuclear engineer with a full 31-day story line!

It's just you and the 'boss', who calls every so often to give directions and chat a bit... although... something certainly seems strange about him, possibly related to the old ai genocidal uprising a few years back. Either way...Try to keep your job, along with making sure the surrounding city doesn't blow up in a horrifically avoidable radioactive tragedy, as you, and various uncontrollable events grind down the reactor and everyone's sanity over the span of 31 playable days.

Keep the city powered, keep the heat down, and keep your desk clean. You'll have your hands full with all of these spinning plates! will you bask in the chaos or be consumed by it? It can really only end one way, Meltdown!

Behind The Desk!

Everything you need to touch is right here on your reactor control desk. All in one place!

Control the power generation with the reactor slider! Control rods are pulled from the reactor as you push that slider upwards, creating more fission and therefore: more power!

Your gauges will tell you how much power you're generating, how much you have left to keep the facility running, and the amount that you're sending out to the city.

Don't slack off! Running out of backup power, or not providing power to the city will cost you your job!

Retained heat builds up in the old reactor as you generate power. It's your other job to keep the retained heat from getting too high or low... Otherwise the reactor will become unstable, and possibly cause a catastrophic nuclear meltdown. We're counting on you to not blow up the city!

The power grid is where you connect the plant's power supply to the surrounding city using your power reserves. Turn the grid wires until power flows to the target number of output nodes, and make sure you have enough power reserves!

The water tank holds the coolant supplying the radiators. a bit of water gets lost as steam condenses back down in the cooling tower, So manage the water levels using a simple flow in/out valve system to keep the heat where you want it!

The Steam chamber can ventilate extra steam in the cooling tower if it's really getting too hot! Each ventilation pin activated will divert retained heat away from the reactor core, while losing a bit of water and power through the process.

The surrounding city is full of sunshine!... most of the time. But it does have it's fair share of big events. From astronauts touching down in the city, to super storms, and major infrastructure collapse, and even rogue cyber-agents causing havoc amongst the city's power grid. They'll be sure to cause more than a few problems for everyone, just try to keep your head on straight!
